So, seeing as this is one of the only forums I am on that has a section dedicated to rants, I thought I'd make use of it! It's always useful to let off some steam. :)

So my rant is essentially this, it probably won't make much sense, will be somewhat garbled, and I'm sorry if you do decide to read it, but hey, I'm typing at a furious speed and letting all my frustrations go with this post. :)

I have essentially been passed up for a promotion at work - the promotion doesn't involve a great salary increase, in fact, the salary increase is only the equivalent of around $2000/year... so not nothing, but not life-changing - anyway, the issue I have is not so much the additional pay, but the fact that I work for an organisation that is relatively small, only has around 8 full-time staff and a few stragglers who work a few hours a week - and I've essentially been passed up, for a job I have full qualifications and experience for, and in fact, have massive organisational and individual links that would help the project that will be run by the person be a huge success.

Anyway, I wasn't initially going to apply for the promotion - I was relatively happy in my current role, my day-to-day working schedule and life worked really well, and the new job would involve occasional unsociable hours working, as well as at least monthly travel that involved overnight stays... so was significantly more duties than I have currently, for not significantly more pay, but I was strongly encouraged and almost in a way felt somewhat forced into applying for the position at the suggestion of my line manager, who essentially guaranteed that I would get an interview and suggested to me that my only job then would be to convince one other member of the three person panel (that included my line manager) that I was the right candidate - no problem - I work with these people daily, I get along really well with all of them, am always first to offer any help I can and technical assistance etc (I am one of the younger (in fact the youngest) members of my work team, and the most tech-savvy), which I do "unofficially" and just to be of help, so surely I can do that?

Well no, apparently not - because today, I receive an email thanking me for my application, but informing me that I have been unsuccessful on this occasion and have not been selected for an interview... excuse me? Huh? What the fuck is going on?

Line manager nowhere to be seen in the office, either yesterday or today, and absolutely no contact from her at all... hmmm... ?
