What pets do you have and how many?

We just have one at my house. I bought my daughter a ferret for Christmas. She'd been wanting one for awhile.

She's? beautiful :D

Love the eyes!
It's a 'he'. :P

He's a 'chocolate point' British shorthair, which you mostly see with the typical 'blue' (grey) fur. They have quite a few colour variations nowadays. Just like colourpoint Siamese / Himalayan cats, the chocolate point (and any other colourpoint versions) British shorthairs have blue eyes instead of orange. It definitely gives them a unique appearance. :D

I've only had him since July. I got him from someone who got pregnant about a month after she got him as a kitten, and she said she could not take care of him now because of pregnancy complications. She did not want to have him when the baby would be born either, so she decided to find him a new home.

Honestly I feel like he's better off with me, though, since she did not really seem to care too much. She did not even give me his scratching post or his toy. It kind of surprised me he only had 1 toy - a tiny mouse - too, while he was only 8 months old and very playful (which he still is). The lady also mentioned how he could not or would not jump at all. Well, actually, it's one of the things he just loves doing when you're actively playing with him... so I think they never really played with it themselves.

Someone knows their history. :D sounds like the former owner wasn’t the best pet owner. The cat just didn’t like her vibe. Otherwise he would’ve definitely jumped. Good that you’re able to give him a better home. ❤️

Yeah, I did some research to find out what kind of cat I was looking for, haha.

I had to put my former 16-year old cat down last year, and I was basically looking for a cat that would be somewhat similar to it (in terms of personality traits and the fluffy fur) but younger (not a kitten though). Did not really care for a specific breed, since I simply adopted my former cat too, and did not even know what kind of cat it was. As long as it did not look the same (in other words just not grey, white, or a mix of both) since I did not really want it to remind me of her too much.

And well, you never know how things go, but there are cat breeds that only live for about 6 - 7 years. Now that I could pick my own cat for a change (former pets were all given to me), I figured I'd just do a little bit of research so that I could expect at least a normal life span and would not have to adjust to it too much myself. For example, Siamese cats (which I do like in terms of looks) tend to be very talkative, and I was used to having a relaxed, old cat. So yeah. Haha.

And yeah, I think he really did not really like his former home since he is now way less scared than he was over there when there are other people around and like I said, very active and playful.

Aww, that's nice. It's good that you did some research. For cats, that's the last thing I'd personally do.

We've got a kitten about 8 months ago, for the kids. Since our dog past away weeks before that and we always wanted a cat again sometime. So we were able to get a kitten from friends and it also took the kids their minds off the passing away. We thought it was a female, but after a few weeks suddenly saw it was a male. :ROFLMAO: Oops. 💁‍♂️ But we love him regardless, haha.

Aw. Hope you did not give him a typical female name hahaha. It's great if you can get a cat from someone you know - I always did the same. Kittens are sooo cute, too! It's just that I did not feel like I was the right person for a kitten, since I live alone and I work 40 hours a week.

It's great that the kitten was able to take the kids' minds off the passing of the dog. It's always such a hard time when pets pass away - I feel like they're part of the family after all. It was also why I decided to get a new cat. Not to replace the old one, but primarily so that I wouldn't have return to an empty house every day. It made me feel pretty sad for weeks / months. 😅

Actually male cats tend to be more loving and playful than female cats by the way! Plus, if you want to get it neutered, it's also cheaper (only around € 90 here). :P Talking about getting them neutered - I remember my cat start spraying urine / marking at around 9 - 10 months, as well as continuously yelling very loudly. 3 or 4 weeks after he started acting like this, I got him neutered. This made everything stop right after the procedure, in case it may happen with your kitten as well and you wish to do something about it... haha.
